The company, which is backed by Amazon, has raised more money than any other EV startup that hasn't gone public

"Rivian plans to assemble its consumer products — the R1T, R1S — as well as the commercial delivery vans slated for Amazon at its factory in Normal, Illinois.

The Normal factory has two separate production lines producing vehicles. One is dedicated for the R1 vehicles and other line is for its commercial vans."

Rivian has officially announced that the lithium-ion battery cells for its electric vehicles will be supplied by Samsung SDI.

As far as we know, Rivian will use 2170-type cylindrical cells (the form factor is the same as in the Tesla Model 3/Y)

---------

INSURANCE costs are supposedly very, very high for Teslas and probably other EVs due to the use of 'exotic' body & chassis construction. Currently, Bubba's Body Shop cannot work on them if you get in a fender-bender and most EVs are sold without a dealership for repairs.  This may be an EV-killer for me.
