Rivian has officially announced that the lithium-ion battery cells for its electric vehicles will be supplied by Samsung SDI.
As far as we know, Rivian will use 2170-type cylindrical cells (the form factor is the same as in the Tesla Model 3/Y)

INSURANCE costs are supposedly very, very high for Teslas and probably other EVs due to the use of 'exotic' body & chassis construction. Currently, Bubba's Body Shop cannot work on them if you get in a fender-bender and most EVs are sold without a dealership for repairs. This may be an EV-killer for me.
