Windows Tablets?
« on: December 11, 2014, 02:32:14 PM »
I'm seeing some really good pricing on Windows tablets on Amazon.  Like a 10" major brand Win 8.1 tablet, WiFi and 4G LTE for $430.  That seems like a good deal especially compared to the prices of iPad Air and Air2.

Anyone using Windows on tablet or phone and what do you think of it?  Is there some Windows ecosphere gotcha (critical flaw) that makes these tablets seem reasonably priced?

Main issue is using the desktop mode on a 7" tablet, can be rather frustrating. I'm sure it's better on a 10" but still not as good as a UI designed for mobile.

I'd wait on win10, supposedly coming out spring/summer? I'm expecting a better user experience on tablet, but it's ms so who knows.

The metro interface is much better, but I don't have much reason to use it.

Thanks Drastic. I missed the last half of that thread. You saved me!

7 and 8 inch tablets make great book readers but I really need a 10" to get things done.  But you pointed out something important I was expecting a tablet OS and this would have been a desktop OS crammed where it really does not belong.

Well, to be fair it does have the mobile "modern" interface which is truly optimized for mobile (and works well the little time I did spend there), but that is all windows store apps. Lots of holes there though, no FF for instance.

If you take that approach and consider the desktop os as an addon and useful when you sometimes need it, it's workable. Still, I'd wait for win10 unless I needed one today.
