Water Cooler / new EU data protection rules coming

Apparently there is going to be a lot of changes since they last setup rules in 1995 and there will be legislation to promote the "right to be forgotten" .  This could really effect how things are done on the web.  I'm sure they are reacting to the recent privacy issues with Facebook and Google.

Monetization / How diversified are you?
« on: November 05, 2010, 03:46:53 PM »
For me it seems to be a constant battle.  I tell my self that I need to be more diversified, but then I settle down to what is easy and I have recent success with.  It works for a while, but then I get blind sided and 50% o my income disappear as there is some fundamental industry shift.  That's the one constant, right?  The industry is very dynamic and what works today has a good chance of being an utter failure tomorrow.  So, I have this constant nag in the back of my head. "you need to be doing something, don't get caught relying on this one thing."

Over the years I've got battered by tectonic shifts probably five or six times.  Still, I don't think I'm diversified enough which always gives me that nagging voice.  Give me some inspiration on this topic.

Traffic / "Sponsored listings" to now a more discrete "Ads" on G

Yet further blending of Adwords into the general search results.  Too bad they don't publish how each of these changes effect CTR.  Between this, instant search, and the little triangle now pointing to the top Adwords bid I am sure their PPC numbers are going through the roof.

Water Cooler / Google officially has too much money

I go outside to help the wife with some groceries and up in the sky this is happening.  It took five planes working in tandem.  My kids said that it has been going on all day and that they were reading it at school.  My wife took the pic for me.
