Aldi (US) Now Accepts Credit Cards
« on: March 03, 2016, 08:55:52 PM »
Aldi is laying the groundwork for taking over the US grocery business.  They now accept credit cards.

Another nail in Walmart's coffin.

This was the one thing that kept me from using Aldi regularly.

I'll let you know when we get an Aldi, Brad.  Amz will be delivering groceries including frozen, dairy, and fresh produce to my doorstep by drone before Aldi gets within 50 miles of here.

Interesting to me how it's not just the big box retailers that are getting competition but also the big traditional grocery chains.  This coming from both online (Amazon) and smaller niche stores like Aldi.

I went to an Aldi for the first time a couple weeks ago and left about a minute later. I guess the marketing machine has worked on me and I just couldn't bring myself to buy brands I have never heard of. I am usually even fine with a store brand like Publix. But I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on some of the stuff at Aldi.

I remember my first trip to Aldi in the UK.
It was alien and confusing time, they only stocked just 1 or 2 different types of the same product, not the plethora of different brands, filling masses of shelf space for the exact same product.
But I persisted and now I've seen the light.
No more do I spend hours working out what the best pasta is to get, or why a pack of digestive biscuits is twice the price of another.
I walk in, spend a 3rd of the time I used too, and get products that are just as good, if not better than the branded stuff.
It was a revelation! :)

Ruth Ann took me to an Aldi.
I DID NOT like it at all.
So there!

ha, brand snob, you'll see the error of your ways soon enough :P
On a serious note, maybe the UK stores are better geared up than the US. I don't know

I'm a fairly recent convert to Aldi in the UK. They do some really good booze at ridiculously low prices.

>booze

I'm not a huge fan of the Aldi here in Austria, but Lidl (same idea) is a different matter. I'm there weekly. Decent Weissbier for hardly any money :)
I'd rather decline two drinks than one German adjective.

We've had one a while. Never stepped in. Heard something about having to pay to use a cart?

Feels like the day-old-bread company.

>>having to pay to use a cart

You put a quarter in, use your cart, and when you return it you get your quarter back. Keeps them from having to have people go out in the parking lot and collect carts.

Way back, when money was tight, I started shopping at Aldi at least for stock up items.  I saved a huge amount of money.  I hear in the US they have increased their fresh produce, organic and healthy stuff lines of foods.  I'll give them a try again.

I hear that while they only have 2 - 3 employees working per shift, they work them hard but at the same time they pay well.

I do have to admit, it is is a skill at the checkout. The speed they scan those items is ridiculous
