Some of this is a real concern, but a lot is a straw man.

The 8-16% number includes the devices connnected to the internet, but the thing is that can't increase exponentially. In other words let's say people are spending 6 hours per day on screens connected to the internet. How many times can that double? Furthermore, is that additional screen time or time taken away from the broadcast television or video games?

And then there's this - if we transition to electric cars, we're going to need to upgrade the grid a whole lot, but we'll also even out usage. All those cars will be batteries and if I want to save money, I charge my car at low midnight rates and let the power company draw from my car to power all those internet devices at 7-11pm

Real concerns, but I find a lot of what's reported in that article just plain dumb.
