I'm waiting for an affordable (i.e. non-Tesla) AWD EV.

EVs should have incredible AWD, much more responsive than ICE. And since we're under chain controls for a lot of the year, it's not really negotiable.

Currently, though, AFAIK even the SUVs planned (Kia Kona) are not planned with AWD. They really need to stop calling them Sport Utility Vehicles, since they are neither sporty or high utility. I personally prefer SAV - Suburban Assault Vehicles.

Subaru is way behind on EV tech and they have been the market leader for cheap AWD for a couple of decades. I wonder who will take their spot in the EV world

14 yr olds can drive it in parts of Europe.  Great, that's all we need is 14 yr old drivers picking off granny in the crosswalk.

Sort of related, in Peachtree City, GA the whole town drives around on golf carts. The high school parking lot is full of them.

You can get a street-licensed golf cart here in NC.  IIRC, you can only drive them on streets with speed limits of 35 mph or less.  I'm looking at those for my brother, who suffers from several impairments and cars are getting to be problematic.  He may eventually lose his license as his vision fails, but some electric scooters & such don't require a license.

What he really needs is a self-driving car.

If you could get a true self-driving car, I would get one for my in-laws tomorrow (they would be pissed off, then insist on reimbursing us for more than we spent, then absolutely love it).

I'm estimating annual taxi fare to come in around $15k ...and that might be conservative.  So, $50k-ish is certainly do-able with that kind of ROI.
