The long-term history of the western US is drier than the 19th and 20th century levels. When you mix that with global warming, the West will be very different by 2050.

The best course of action, obviously, is to continue building as rapidly as possible in Phoenix and Dallas.

Hannah Cloke and predicting floods
The Life Scientific
Professor Hannah Cloke of the University of Reading talks to Jim Al-Khalili about predicting this summer's serious floods and why lives shouldn't have been lost.

I know it is in some ways the complete opposite of the OP, but somehow related.

on a more related note, A friend has just come back from the Sahara, where temps were over 50 degrees, and are usually 30 to 40 degrees. ( Only 50% completed the MDS (Marathon de sable)  this year)
... Make sure you live before you die.
