TIME Person of the Year

I really, really hope the Arab Youth Protestors win and not Jobs. You can live without an iPhone but it's not much fun living in a dictatorship.

Its quite a story, but it isn't over yet.

I could see it being Rupert Murdoch too, in an  infamous sort of way.

Rupe's 66/1 with one bookie if you fancy him to win. My pick is the Navy SEAL boys. Full preview here:

The award is supposed to recognise the person who has had the strongest worldwide influence on everyday lives during the past 12 months.

I doubt this will be adhered to, but it is, then:

* Not Jobs - 'past twelve months' is not when he made most influence on the world
* Not the 'SEAL Team 6' - it was an interesting and important event - but the full story is not out yet, and it didn't really impact on our lives in a noticeable way yet, ie, no major terror attacks in the year before or after his death - more of a long term impact that hasn't been decided yet.
* As they have given the award to a group before, the 'Arab Youth' would definitely qualify on the 'influence in the last 12 months' - but are they one group? do they even think they are one group themselves? .. or is the concept a western construct to simplify a complicated situation for news consumption? Who would you interview?

Tricky - would be easier if they narrowed it down from the 'world', which tends to guarantee a somewhat loaded result.
