I'm not in that age group, but I ditched the FB app when the whole tracking thing surfaced.  I just use the mobile web version in FF on my phone and it works fine.

I never thought the privacy thing would catch on, but maybe it is with the younger set.

I never installed it.  Seems the kids are pretty into Instagram though.

I tried to uninstall on my S8+ a few months ago. Never used it or signed in, it just keeps downloading updates so I wanted to nuke it.

Can't. Locked into the OS. (wtf?) Disable only, can't remove it.

As an aside, the "delete fb" movement is kind of half assed isn't it? Just deleting an app means little vs canceling your account.

I agree.

I still have an account, mostly because it is a very convenient way to look up how old friends are doing.  I probably log in about once a month or so, I really don't care to argue politics with distant cousins or to look at what my sister had for dinner last night.

Some forms of tracking are hard to ditch.
https://apnews.com/828aefab64d4411bac257a07c1af0ecb/AP-Exclusive:-Google-tracks-your-movements,-like-it-or-not
"An Associated Press investigation found that many Google services on Android devices and iPhones store your location data even if you’ve used a privacy setting that says it will prevent Google from doing so."

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-08-30/google-and-mastercard-cut-a-secret-ad-deal-to-track-retail-sales
"That insight came thanks in part to a stockpile of Mastercard transactions that Google paid for. But most of the two billion Mastercard holders aren’t aware of this behind-the-scenes tracking. That’s because the companies never told the public about the arrangement. ... Google paid Mastercard millions of dollars for the data, according to two people who worked on the deal, and the companies discussed sharing a portion of the ad revenue, according to one of the people."

I wonder if the security / privacy / tracking story will eventually lead to increasing perceived value of Apple devices as more people know somebody who knows a guy who knows somebody who yada yada some privacy and security issue led to some ridiculous legal outcomes.

I deleted my account and created a new one that had zero friends and set the settings so that I could only be seen by friends of friends. Since I have no friends (at least on Facebook), I'm effectively invisible. I only log into it if I need to, usually in an incognito window.

It's OK Mackin.  WE know you still use a land line and dial phone.  (We won't tell anyone either.)
