Google Preview Text Snippets
« on: November 12, 2010, 12:21:39 PM »
On some previews, it shows a text snippet overlayed on the image - in some cases two of them.

It seems that it is not the same as the snippet you may get in the SERPs (sometimes it is, sometimes not)

It is picking a block of text that contains the words in the search - not always as a phrase though, just present individually in the block.

It seems like this will possibly help with CTR, so naturally, we need to look at how we can control it.

Including paragraphs with target keywords is kind of obvious, and should already be there of course - but the question is "why do some sites show the snippets, and others not".

Either there is a trigger that makes it show or not show, or it is at some kind of 'roll-out' stage and those without text snippets will catch up.

Any ideas?

I noticed that too and came here to post it :)

I couldn't figure out what and why Google grapped a particular text from the page.

I have a test running at the moment - just waiting for the page to be indexed.

Won't prove anything as such, but will at least gather some missing info.

It is specific to the keyphrase - ie you can make it trigger on most sites by choosing a different phrase - but can't understand why it doesn't trigger for all sites that have body content with the key phrase in.

Slightly off topic, but I noticed that pages with large Flash movies look pretty silly with big white spaces.
