Ah! I just wrote about this a few weeks ago. TLDR: they're not links to other sites or Google pages, but trigger widgets similar to iOS' "look up" button that appears in the text selection menu. The issue is that they look like links and cross the line to page alteration.

I would caution against recommending this to most users without listing caveats. I wrote about them elsewhere.

It's fine to recommend it to users who understand these trade-offs.

Hi! I made my site, seirdy.one, in 2020 and have been maintaining it since. It looks barebones but I put a great deal of thought into its markup and stylesheet being accessible and semantic as possible. I write about search engines, accessibility, privacy, security, and more! Recently, I've started trying to branch out and write more personal things, starting with a page listing my workouts.
