New book about Google being dodgy and power mad.

Nothing we don't already know.  The news here is that the reality is slowly trickling down to the mainstream.

QuoteCleland shows that the world's #1 brand is untrustworthy. He exposes the unethical company hiding behind a "Don't Be Evil" slogan. He uncovers Google's hidden political agenda and reveals how Google's famed mission to organize the world's information is destructive and wrong. Cleland is the first to critically examine where Google is leading us, explain why we don't want to go there, and propose straightforward solutions.

Oh! Google's bugged my furnace - again!   :P

Yeah, I haven't read the book so maybe he goes off on conspiracy theories.  That would be bad.

If you think of the scope of Google and Facebook together its truly incredible the amount of personal data out there.  I'm not sure if it is willful ignorance that keeps people from thinking about it or if people just accept that privacy is disappearing.

I still can't persuade my wife to stop using her supermarket loyalty cards - I guess most people don't care.

If they think they are safely in the middle of the herd they don't care too much about the lions.

I've been beating the "don't be evil = BS" drum since 2002 and sadly I think people have fallen for it the same with Facebook.

has anyone else read Blind Faith, by Ben Elton? Sort of a 1984 for the internet age. Scarily well observed.
