QuoteDespite the impending embargo, Samsung welcomed the judgement. In a statement, the company said: "Today's ruling is an affirmation that the Galaxy range of products is innovative and distinctive.

A judge ruled that Samsung infringed on a patent by Apple and Samsung said that???  Isn't that like saying "WE'RE NUMBER TWO!! WE'RE NUMBER TWO!!"

Don't Samsung supply screens to Apple?  I think this will be sorted out quite quickly.

Is the patent system basically knackered? Surely this isn't what the system was intended for: To create an entire multi-billion dollar IP ownership and enforcement industry.  The strategy seems to be to buy anything with a patent that resembles part of a profitable product. It's not about protecting ideas, it is about quashing them.

Has it always been like this, but it is not more public due to the way things are reported now? Alternatively are our tech companies just being run big a snidier bunch of shitbags than previously?  All these firms rely on the technology from people who aren't such wankers.  Let's face it, if Tim Berners Lee thought more like Steve Jobs there would be a lot of very different technology out there.

At least patents expire. Not sure how long they last but they seem more finite than copyright which have become extended to nearly 100 years which is a bit much.
