I have to get some presents for people... ideas?

buckworks

Who are they? Male? Female? Young? Old? What are their interests? What's your budget? Details, please!

Rupert

Small remote controled cars or helecopters. you can fight with them, race with them, whatever, and are fun and cheap from Hong Kong :)
... Make sure you live before you die.

keano

Gift vouchers or lottery tickets or a combination of both.

Brad

I'm liking the way you think Rupert!  Listen to Rupert, dogboy dogfighting with radio helicopters would be cool.

If it's women's gear and tackle you are looking for I'll be lost.

Rupert

Brad, I was thinking of the ladies when I suggested those...   ;)

Can you get them in the US?

Barring answers to Bucky's questions...

Model rockets - thoroughly enjoyed by every age, gender and culture I've tried them with (male/female of course, ages 5-60, but alas only Americans and Swiss for culture). Of course, typically people past a certain age aren't excited by them, but if it's a joint gift to a kid and a parent, the parent will force herself to go out and launch with the kid. And then go WOW!

Sometimes when out of ideas I'll buy the person a domain name, throw it on Google Apps and set them up with a personal mailbox. Goes over well every time.

Yes:)

Or should I just say that my list is long?  I'm just looking for random ideas. Thought a brainstorm thread might jog someone's creative juices and might inspire an otherwise unsolicited consumer purchase:)

Gurtie

ah, random ideas time

I second the rockets. One of the best presents ever.

anything homemade is good unless recipients really don't like that type of thing - sloe gin, beer, wine, gingerbread houses, truffles, jams, hampers made up with the person in mind (like curry themed ones or loads of cheap toys or craft items for kids) generally work really well, even when it's something they could easily buy or make themselves. Er, can you shoot them a leg of venison in time? :)

Magazine subscriptions. Adopt their favourite animal at the zoo. www.oxfamunwrapped.com or whatever the US version is. For your mom who clearly appreciates lovely things, start a tradition of giving her a beautiful tree ornament every year from you and soon-to-be-Mrs-Dogboy. Or just books on learning Bulgarian for everyone!

Drastic

Adult male - top shelf liquor, good cigars
Adult female - body spray/soap/lotion/etc assortment
Boy - rc helicopter (agree!)
Girl  - craft kit for making jewelry or similar

Rupert

I would struggle giving away sloe gin Gurtie... Just one of those things :)

Depending on your budget too of course.  A 3 metre kite can be fun for boys.

Although looks like the prices have gone up since I got mine.

A ride on the back of your Duke? I took an 82 year old, and a 65 year old on the back of my bike... but not at the same time, and they got different rides.

Q: What do you get a man who has everything?
A: A custom embroidered hat to prove it.

Q: How do you know the hat is custom?
A: Because the assclown who embroidered it didn't center the logo?!?!

Xmas gift fail 2011  :-\  I didn't even say a word, just picked it up and left. What do you say? Congrats on getting all of them right side up? Or great job on not putting some on the inside?
