So speaking of places I might want to live for a bit, have you ever seen this place:

...and many more:

...I swear Mike Mackin lived here, or some place just like it.  He hated it. Said the natives totally loathed white people.  Can't remember if it was here or not. But at a distance, this place looks top shelf.

It wouldn't take long before I'd get seriously claustrophobic on an island like that.

As a prairie girl, I like my wide open landscape.

>wide open landscape
I think they call that the ocean out here:)

>I'd get seriously claustrophobic
I also think they have a drink with a little umbrella in it that solves that problem:)

or a crate of stella and enough cigarettes and a lighter and it would be like heaven on earth dog boy :)
I've learned that pleasing everyone is impossible. But, pissing everyone off is a piece of cake!

Tahiti has to be the most awesome place on the planet I've ever been.

We honeymooned here, Bora Bora was the middle island hop and the longest stay. We started in Moorea and ended in Le Taha'a. I think it was 12 days total.

Every place we stayed in was a bungalow over the water with windows in the floor you could lift and feed the fish. Jump in and snorkel right off the back door.

Absolutely killer.

I have a few hundred pics and hours of video. Funny enough just last week I was getting the old dv tapes out to capture everything and put it on dvd.

Only catch - it's rather expensive. You'd need a pretty good connection or special skill set like being a master diver to get a job there and not be a native.

So it's expensive and there are no jobs; sounds like we've identified why most people dont live there then:)

Sounds fantastic.

Yeah, it's a true paradise. Papiete, the capital, is much like other third world country cities, just in the middle of the South Pacific. We flew in there at night, woke up and took a boat to Moorea. Every hop we made was less crowded and more desolate.

In Bora Bora one of the restaurants you could eat on the sand outside, watch native fire dancers at night, etc. We would walk up for lunch sometimes and be the only people in the place. It was surreal.

When we got to Le Taha'a (last stop), it was by helicopter. It was basically one resort and one restaurant (mostly outdoors in the tree tops.) When we scheduled a dive, we had a dive master, a boat and the two of us. I think we saw other non-employees on that island 4-5 times.

I think Mackin was on Fiji.  I hear Tora Bora is nice ;)
