Spooked by ecommerce hackings?

I find that at checkout on ecommerce sites, I'm double checking to see if I'm on a secure server, lately I have been looking for those secure buttons letting me know site has been checked (whatever that means) every 24 hours. Lastly, I now generally don't let them store my credit card info anymore, and I find that if they offer PayPal payment I'm using that.  The switch to PayPal is a big shift of habit for me.

All this because I'm not feeling my CC data is secure after hearing about so many hack attacks.

Are you altering you online shopping or payment habits?

I'm thinking it is to the advantage of smaller merchants to offer payment by PayPal or Amazon Payments if they still offer that.

I switched to PayPal because each time a Visa Bank sends me a NEW CARD because the Fing Russians got to a major U.S. retailer I needed to get to each merchant that I do business with monthly and change my info.

With PayPal I just make one change.

I've posted before that I favor Amazon -even at a higher price- because I don't want my cc in numerous merchant dbs.  Yes, I use paypal as the alternative for the same reason --assuming that the merchant doesn't get as involved with my cc.

For the very few merchants that I do deal with online outside of AMZ, I only use a single cc for all of them, though I carry two for personal use.  If they require a profile, I go back and change the cc to a visa gift card number with a few $$ on it.

Just yesterday, I used a dansie cart that looked ancient. It gave me the creeps.

Ancient is OK... I was nearly caught by a North Face pop up shop a couple of days ago.

Likely Fake produce, "Too good to be true" pricing, turns out it is a chinese payment provider that I had ner heard of, and that was when I was alerted.

They have bought a load of expired domains, set up a network, rank, used the best names for selling the product, and off they go.

Neat system. Hands up, they nearly got me.

It just scares away more people from small business's.

RC.  you are paranoid :)
