Nice job hanging on to the weight loss during hell month RC.

Rupert, that's a couple of pretty good weeks.

I did a repeat of the previous week 4/4 gym sessions, 3 short runs.

>hell month

Had to bear down after the train-ride weekend and another couple of family events. July will bring another batch of family gathering eat-a-thons, so time is short.  That plateau I have at 173 can work to my benefit. I can't seem to break through it, but I do return to it fairly quickly if I go full keto.

Thanks LM... been very busy, so lucky to get anything in. Oh, and all runs are short for me.

so Sun night, 2 runs, 1 tennis and 1 cycle. 4/4 very pleased.

2 of the 4 today... Lucy (daughter) pushing us all on :)

RC you seem to have weight management well sorted, particularly considering the fun you have !

Ergo, once again, envious of your lifestyle... I seem to be going the other way at the moment!

Beware the Facebook effect. This thread is more "Tom's Greatest Hits" not "Tom's Daily Grind." I also did a fair bit of sitting on my butt in front of a computer and probably watched at least 5 episodes of The Flash ;-)

That said... I got out on a couple more hard climbs two days ago. Yesterday I was thrashed, but it felt good.

littleman

4/4 gym sessions, 2 short runs.  Hell month actually extends into early June for us (until the last kid is out of school); I am hoping to increase my cardio after that.

Ergo, you jokingly mentioned that there may come a time when my daughter gets stronger than me, it is getting very close on leg-press.  We are doing 10  45 lbs. plates together and I noticed that she seems to do it easier than I -- she really does seem to have freakishly strong quads.

ergophobe

1. Actually, I wasn't joking.

2. That's awesome.

3. Are we talking the 45-degree sled? I think the most I've ever done was 13 plates for 3 sets of 12 and I guarantee I couldn't do that now. I think she's already stronger than I am.

littleman

Yeah, the 45 degree sled.  She knocks out 10 plates really quickly.  We're doing 3 sets of 10.  I've been actually encouraging her to hold at this weight for a while because I am worried about muscle imbalance where her quads are overdeveloped compared to the rest of her.  Her deadlift is still at 185lbs. but I think I am going to start encouraging her to work up to 200lbs. soon.  BTW, she could definitely outrun me on anything other than a short sprint.

>> deadlift is still at 185lbs

Mine is headed that direction... At my best, I've only been able to do 2X body weight. Now I consider 1.5X borderline dangerous. Raw power has never been my thing. I've always been better at things that require 100,000 reps at low output (i.e. things like putting on foot in front of the other for hours at time).

Yep... just did some deadlifts for the first time in a while and I'm down to 205 (1.51X body weight, but that's only because I've lost enough muscle that I'm down almost 10 pounds in bodyweight). Did a couple sets of 6x205 and then put another couple small plates on and started to lift and thought "Uh... no."

littleman

To put it bluntly, ego seems to be the destroyer of men as they get older.  I keep telling myself that I need to be sensible in the weight room, do plenty of warm-ups, keep my rep range on the higher end.  I find myself wanting to push it more.  It is weird, but I know my muscles are stronger than my joints and ligaments at this point.  10-14 reps seems to be a safe zone where a lot of those types of injuries are avoided.

As for your deadlift, I think 205 is very respectable for a person of any age at 135lbs.

170. goal.

You mean Gggggggooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllllll!

At least that's how they say it on TV.

Good job.

And in those two brief phrases, you've summed up the entire problem

>goal

Thanks, but the real trick will be to re-calibrate that hardwired plateau at 173 down to 170. To do that, I'm going to have to hold 168-170 for weeks or months.
