QuoteCall of Duty: Black Ops has surpassed the $1 billion worldwide sales mark after just six weeks of availability, Activision announced today.

That's one mighty sized industry.  I bought a PS3 the other week and bought this game... it's a nice distraction.

Having been a bit of a gamer on the ol' Amiga back in the day I'm looking to develop a site that dips its toes into the 'gaming world'. There had been talk of gaming by the masses having a large part to play in social networking, but I imagine the 'high end' games such as these will be around for a very long time.

My kids had the earlier version. It made me dizzy to watch. The first person shooters going all the way back to Castle Wolfenstien have done this to me. I don't know how people can sit around and play this for hours on end. I end up needing Dramamine. ;)

Castle Wolfenstien Doom and Quake I thought were awesome in the early 90's

I have not played a game since 1995 as all you gain playing games all the time is get better at the game, you gain no knowledge whatsoever
I've learned that pleasing everyone is impossible. But, pissing everyone off is a piece of cake!

I've got the new Xbox 360 but I end up playing Angry Birds Seasons or MiniGore on my Iphone most of the time  ;D

Yeah,  the COD franchise is a behemoth. It will be interesting to see what they pull out for 2011 since they don't have IW for bi-annual offerings.

As an aside, we recently bought a Kinect, and it's very fun. First video gaming where you get good exercise. It's pretty viral for those who try it, many stories about people buying a gaming console for the first time after playing kinect at friends'/relatives' place. Happened to me, first I showed it to bought a console package within a few days.

It's hard to get in front of the revenue stream on those blockbusters.  Activision can dictate their terms at this point with those IPs.
