One of last night's Grammy winners was classical violinist James Ehnes, originally from Brandon, Manitoba.

He was eleven years old the first time I heard him perform, in Brandon.

He played the opening measures of a Bach fugue as if it were as easy as breathing, and within a few seconds I was in tears, overwhelmed by the recognition of genius.

It's nice to see him walking so well on the world stage.

It must be a real nice feeling to see someone local get international recognition for their talents.

I know his parents slightly. His mother said it was a terrifying responsibility to have a child with such gifts.

James was a preschooler when he announced that he wanted to learn the violin ... inspired by seeing Itzhak Perlman play on Sesame Street.

Mission accomplished, I'd say!
