TL;DR (sorta): Aircraft carriers (and the Navy) are a dumb idea now --a relic of past warfare.

Carriers would be sunk within hours, and manned aircraft are doomed. I've argued those points with military friends for years. They ALL disagree. I hope we never find out.

I think the main use of carriers for the last 30 years has to do bombing raids on less robust countries from the relative safety of an ocean.
