Well, if they are struggling to find places to push those links I know some sites that would be very happy to receive them. I'd certainly be happy with my license fee if I picked up a couple more.

Actually, I do find it quite encouraging that referrals to external sites is something that they monitor and want to increase. 

But Why would they want to do that?  If only so they do not have to host it themselves perhaps?

They announced today that they are cutting a bunch of foreign broadcasts as well, that's a shame.

Could very well be advertising clicks. I think the fact they display ads to non-UK IP's and generate revenue is a bit of a sore point for the BBC's commercial competitors.

I read it more as part of a community commitment type of thing.
