Random phones started appearing on the LAN a few months back, they had MACs but no IPs and no data regarding them on the router.

I saw something like that about 2 months ago. I don't recall it being a phone, though.

I've had tablets and unknown devices with brands like gigabyte, asus etc.

One guy fixed it by disabling WPS, which sounded illogical but i did it this morning and nothing since, will check again tomorrow.

Seomone else mentioned Windows Connect or some bloatware i hadn't heard of.

That would mean your router didn't assign those devices an IP address, which would be a good thing.  An intruder may be trying to infiltrate your home network (could be spyware coming from your neighbors house).

I don't think it's anything malicious, probably somer crappy Windows 'feature'.

It hasn't happened since i disabled WPS, but i'll give it 12 more hours.

Disabling WPS has cured it, which is odd since devices shouldn't be able to start association without starting the process by pressing the WPS button.

That's interesting and weird.  If you figure out which feature was causing the ghost devices please let us know.
