What tablet to occupy the kids?

I've got some family travelling coming up and am thinking we need a get out of jail card by way of personal screen time for my 6 and 3 year old.

Thinking of getting 2 tablets we can load up with cartoons that we can bring out when all else fails... hopefully not within the first 5 minutes.

Anything recommendations?

I figure we don't have any complex needs...

Something that can run Amazon Video / Netflix / iPlayer apps, and also have some local storage for a few hours worth of Netflix downloads or similar.

About 3 years ago, I put 3 Fire HD 8s to the test with the grandkids. Worked well enough. At the time, I subscribed to Amz's kids' service.  It was OK, but a royal PITA managing the tablet's memory as the kids never delete, only load.

Also, I installed the apk that let me access Google Play apps.

Games were rapidly shifting to cloud/subscription back then.  Simple load-and-forget games (that were of interest to them) were hard to find.

The Fire 8s can be put to other uses later. I have one one mounted on the garage wall now as a smarthome control panel.

There is a thick rubber case with oversize corner bumpers that Amz makes for kids' Fire tablets.

I want a travel craptop just for browsing.  One of these old Fire 8s with the G Playstore apk loads & runs Vivaldi well enough. I ordered a $17 micro-usb keyboard and folio cover

Should work out just fine.

Makes a fine travel craptop ...one that I just won't care about, which is the point.  I've ordered a micro-usb splitter cable to see if it'll support a trackball but it'll work as-is.
