Why did it take so long for people to start doing this? So obvious.

Were you still going Pubcon the year (2012? 2013?) when the keynote speaker gave out a book called, "QR Codes Kill Kittens"? Funny book.

I noticed that too and it is a good use of QR codes. I just had a blood draw at Quest - show up, scan your custom QR code and the system checks you in, displays your first name and last initial on the TV along with expected wait time. Show up for a vaccine - scan the QR code and it takes you to the registration form. And so on.

Mark Stratten's book has all sorts of things like QR codes that are almost impossible to access, QR codes on web pages (but wait, I'm on a web page, why wouldn't I just click the link?) and so forth.

The head of F&B at the hotel wanted me to put a QR code on the menu that would lead to a PDF download of the nutritional information. This was great because he thought this was very high tech and thought I was a genius because I could generate a QR code. He was showing it at regional meetings ("Look, WE have a QR code.").

I was fairly sure it would never get used, so I of course ran it through a redirect so I could have some tracking and analytics on it. Other than testing the URL once a month, it did not get a single scan in two years. But boy, he sure was proud of how high tech his restaurants were. He got fired.
