My mechanic friend's hope is that they do this quickly enough to encourage a viable retrofit electrification industry --ev crate engines & batteries.  I have doubts that will happen at a reasonable price, remaining a specialty collectors niche.  There is too much money in the subscription model AND the younger generations seem to have no interest in DIY or shadetree stuff.
