This is smart.  It isn't a total solar solution, but it is a pretty nice way to offset fossil fuel use and very obtainable.   RC, the article said they will eventually open up internationally.

I've been watching the plug-n-play microinverters for a couple of years now.  Last I looked, a setup like this was $3k-ish --if you could find it.

I wonder what the life-time carbon balance is since a lot of these will be in less-than-ideal positions (all the photos show them mounted vertically on railings).

It's something I've been wondering about our less-than-ideal panels. Did we actually do a good thing or not? It gives us resilience, but in terms of carbon footprint, it's not like there's an Energy Balance^tm sticker on your system that tells you the carbon inputs and expected lifetime carbon savings.

Similar to lifetime cost of ownership for a product, lifetime carbon balance is a super hard thing to figure out.
