I'm looking at using Joomla, but never used it before and would like to talk to someone who has used this CMS.

And, I'd like to use a template that has a GUI backend so I'm not screwing around with code for the look and feel.  I'm so over that.

I've used it.  In fact we use it loads, develop for it and help run a Joomla! user group. 

Templates with a GUI back-end are more tricky.  The basics are all web-controlled, colour pallets, menu placements, logo placements, style variations and access to edit the CSS / HTML code via the Joomla! editors,  is that what you mean?
