So what are the actual benefits of jailbreaking iPhone or iPad?

I mean actual ones, not stuff like "I don't like being restricted"

If you are thinking about jailbraking you might as weel get an android

I Jailbroke my iPhone for 2 main reasons. One, I needed to use the tethering. When I am out and about in Japan and I don't have a landline available I can use my phone to tether to my laptop/netbook. Two, I wanted to unlock the phone. Carrier unlocking lets you drop in another SIM. I wanted to test this out in Asia as a new SIM cost a lot less than my carrier's international roaming plans.

I did Laurie's iPhone just for the better tariff on another carrier.

I had to "jailbreak" (read: root + s-off) my droid to get to the really good stuff. Same thing. Well.... almost

Add this to the mix fwiw:

"But until Apple works out how to fix the vulnerability and issues a software patch, jailbroken phones are more secure than the huge majority out there."
