Spam filters for Outlook

I have to use Outlook for my work. The plague of the Outlook user is spam (well it's my plague). I find that the built-in filters are crap. They just don't catch enough and I have to waste time deleting spam from my Inbox and checking the Junk E-mail folder for false positives. This is unacceptable.

Until I upgraded to Outlook 2010 I was a huge fan of the SpamBayes add-in. This Bayesian filter was trainable and I had it so fine tuned that I never saw spam in my Inbox, and I never saw a false positive. Unfortunately the development of SpamBayes stopped somewhere around Office XP. The changes that MS made to Office 2010 were too much for it.

Before SpamBayes I was a huge supporter of MailWasher. I think I still have my Pro account with them. However, SpamBayes was so much better as it actually learned what I taught it.

However, now I'm desperate. Is MailWasher Pro still any good, or are there other Bayesian spam filter add-ons for Outlook that are worth looking at?

Mailwasher Pro is still the best. (Hat Tip to RC all those years ago.)

Current version uses .net framework but you can request the previous version which is stand alone and work just as well.

Was that RC or me::)

Any benefits of using the .NET version? I'm on Windows and have .NET for several other programs so it's nothing additional for me to add.

Um, I think it was RC echoing your recommendation. ... (Whoops! ...)

Not sure of any advantages over standalone, I don't have .net installed so wanted to avoid it for just one application. So I guess my "works just as well" is qualified with "as I understand".

I used to use both of those tools with outlook.

Is there any way you could use google apps to filter the first set of emails then use outlook to download from gmail pre cleaned of most spam.

bill

Nice idea, but I have an Exchange server at the office. I can't push the mail thru Google first. I need something that can work on my local machine.

bill

Ack. My Exchange setup is impeding my attempted use of these products. I don't have a POP account anymore, so things like MailWasher or POPFile simply can't work as a filter. Back to the drawing board...
