Brad

I'm not sure I'm trusting enough to use it.  Um, you go first.

rcjordan

I used it & have put it in my bookmarks toolbar.  Note that it writes to local (something I've been exploring with TMky but -so far- no joy).

I do already use a js 'scratchpad' bookmarklet pinned in my toolbar many times daily --have done so for years.  It works especially well in FF as FF remembers the tab contents unless you power off the laptop. The script was posted here decades ago.

script I'm using posted here

I mostly use it to store frequently used search modifiers so I don't have to type them. Here's a couple I've used in the last day or so;
OrcaSlicer "rename" cloned object|part
tampermonkey|greasemonkey "newsnow.co.uk" ad|redirect
tampermonkey|greasemonkey GM_getResourceText array

The Markdown editor is nice.

But as a general rule, why wouldn't I just keep Notepad++ open on my machine (which is what I do BTW)?

rcjordan

I keep UltraEdit open on the task bar and Notepad pinned to it, but I now usually prefer browser-based in a tab for quickie stuff.  I'll see if I use it. 50/50 chance.

I'm not quite curious enough to try, but I am curious enough to ask you to report back if you find you're just not using UE anymore

rcjordan

Will do, but they'll have to pry UE ver6 from my cold, dead fingers.  Hell, I'm back on Win because of that program.  But I might find that I'm not using the online Np.

I deleted my bookmark 2 days ago but added it back this morning.  It works well as a scratchpad for composing long emails or posts that are going to need a good bit of refining/tweaking/revisiting over an hour or two before sending.  Autosave is a big plus for browser tab stuff.

When first reviewing it, I had the idea that I could modify and/or add enhancements & conveniences with TMky on web-based apps.  But I sorta forgot about it.  Today, the need arose while gathering for a long-ish post about 3dp.  BSky has a short character limit but you can post a long one by threading it in segments.  It would be handy to count characters in the composition and know where to slice it.

Bingo!

Nash: a standalone (can be LOCAL) notepad as a single HTML file

Hello, This is Nash

>LOCAL

I copied the source to a local html file. Then removed some image urls and replaced the broken ones in the format bar with text (link, image, download).  I also searched the code for http & image links, finding only the above link in the footer.

I put the modified template in my Downloads folder and bookmarked it in FF.  When you save, it writes a copy to the downloads folder.    Works!

From last week's notes ---I was searching for "modify local text file in browser."

I happened across Nash on Hacker News today.
