On a more serious note, I worry that this stuff teaches people, especially young people, that what you're looking for is someone who says what you want them to say.

No kids, you are looking for someone who calls your bullshit bullshit. THAT is the thing that makes it all worthwhile.

It makes me think of Andy Crouch's personal vs personalized. A personal relationship requires a person on both sides of the relationship. A personalized relationship only requires a person and a mirror.

I can't remember the name of the book, but it was from like 35 years ago.  It was a dystopian future where men basically stopped desiring women because there were sex androids which had  physical features interactive dialog specifically designed to attract men.  In the story men became useless when exposed to these sex droids and society started to break down.

We're getting closer.

They figure very very briefly in this wonderful story by Simon Rich. I love this short story available in one of his books, at the New Yorker if you can get past the paywall or, read by the author on This American Life

It's only about 10 minutes and I recommend the version read by the author because the intonation and delivery is excellent. He was an SNL writer (youngest ever) and his delivery add to the story IMO
