Is there a difference?

It's typical, of course, to have the imams (or any religious leader) say, "It's because we've become debauched," but at what point do the people say, "It appears the imams' prayers have little impact?"

As William Lodbell asks in Losing My Religion - why does God hate amputees? I don't generally mention this to people who believe in the power of prayer to save lives, win wars and win basketball games.

I will say that serious theologians have good responses to that observation, namely that the point of prayer not to convince God to make your free throw go in the basket or to help you kill more of them than they kill of you, but to help you remember your relationship to God. But most of the praying public are not serious theologians.

... Make sure you live before you die.

It's going to be hard for the current Iranian regime to spend money on weapons and nukes when they are evacuating the capital of Tehran because there is no water.  Explain that to the people.  Piping in other sources of water will be a massive outlay.

Buy stock in desalination equipment manufacturers.  Debbie says that large water sources in that region don't tend to be fresh water.

Yeah. Now any good propagandist would be pushing the "warning from god" angle to further destabilize the regime.  Crank up the Voice Of Amer... oh, nevermind.
