Drastic

It's crazy to me that people aren't up in arms about this. I guess like everything else that's a bit crazy today, ignorance.

I was talking to someone about a month ago who is looking at buying a car and her comment about EVs, "I feel we're just not there yet."

I couldn't get her to explain what that meant. But I think that's part of it - if it were ALL cars, people might be upset at the tariffs. But the fact that we're talking about cheap ELECTRIC cars changes the conversation in the US.

And I don't think the strategic considerations are trivial.

> just not there

Meanwhile, in January, 7 of the roughly 2000 cars sold in Norway were standard gas vehicles. Add in 29 hybrids, 98 diesels and you get 134 out of 2000.

But in the ICE car world the US being cut off from really cool conventional cars has been going on for years, from Japanese micro cars to small pickups to neat Euro car brands that somehow just never make it to the US.  I keep reading articles about various new cars that always end with "of course this won't be available in the US."

Now the same thing is happening with EV's. I see a fair amount of Teslas, while the big US Three car brands seem to have lost the hunt and no Chinese.

And I still have no idea where the nearest fast EV charging station is around here.
