Checkbox for "read"

I would like to request something if it is possible.  I'd like to have a checkbox next to each thread that would allow me to check it and mark only the checked threads as "read".

Honestly, I only read the "unread" posts on this forum.  Otherwise I get overwhelmed.  It'd be nice to be able to check one at a time each thread I've read (or don't want to read again) to remove it from the list.

Is that possible?

I only work from The Unread as well and ideally I'd like the individual checkbox option you've described.  I'll read around the SMF forums when I get a chance to see if there is such a module.

Here's a halfway fix I used this morning:

Mark as read by subforum....

I was on late last night and logged on fairly early this morning.  Even so, the Unread was spilling over onto the 2nd page already.  (Good sign! We're going to be hot.)

To quickly gain a handle on the overall thread clutter in Unread, you can go to lesser subforum like the Water Cooler and click 'mark as read' to just remove those. It just takes out the ones in that particular subforum, leaving the rest of your Unread intact. (I think. I've only tried it once.)

I spent a fair amount of time over in the SMF support forums, grn, but while I found several requests for this feature there were no modules available (though there was a hint that it might be included in ver 2).

If I understand correctly, this already exists - go to profile, then "Look and Layout Preferences", select "Show quick-moderation on message index as" and choose "checkboxes" - for each forum index, you get a checkbox on the right with a dropdown option underneath (mark selected read). Is that what you're looking for?

Yes, but the checkbox is only available at a subforum's root page. Now that you've found that option, I'll dig around in support and see if there's an admin setting somewhere to get it to show on the Unread.  Thanks.
