The gist of the article is that if the US gov't can seize a bit torrent search engine, why can't/won't they seize Google or Bing which can produce the same search results?

They at least got a proper court order to seize same first.

Jason, it appears that the owner of the domain was never served with a court order, nor was Godaddy.  However the article seems to indicate the gov't got a court order prior to seizure.

Seems odd that a bureaucracy founded to take on terrorism is now spending its time enforcing copyrights.

They're just warming up.  COICA hasn't even passed yet.

The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA) sets up a system through which the US government can blacklist a pirate website from the Domain Name System, ban credit card companies from processing US payments to the site, and forbid online ad networks from working with the site. This morning, COICA unanimously passed the Senate Judiciary Committee.
