independent contractor vs employee

I was offered a temp-job at decent pay.  The employer is giving me the choice of independent contractor or temp. employee.   As an IC I would be able to do full deductions, but I'm not convinced that they will be big enough to offset the self-employment tax.  Anybody here ever do the math on each case for themselves?

Not sure about US, but here in Aus there are other implications as well, such as Intellectual Property Rights.
