Yup, I've drunk the Kool Aid - Chrome, Gmail, the whole works. For the rest of you Kool-Aid drinkers, what are you favorite Chrome extensions?

Here are some of mine

   * ColorZilla - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/colorzilla/bhlhnicpbhignbdhedgjhgdocnmhomnp - the best color sampler

   * Check All - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/check-all/nnbihdpkeohjdfncchjhidbbonnihaob - long, annoying list of checkboxes? Do all at once

   * Streak - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/streak-for-gmail/pnnfemgpilpdaojpnkjdgfgbnnjojfik - A CRM for Gmail

   * LiveHTTPHeaders - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/live-http-headers/iaiioopjkcekapmldfgbebdclcnpgnlo - see which headers are being sent and received

   * PageRuler - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/page-ruler/jlpkojjdgbllmedoapgfodplfhcbnbpn - get the size of any element on the page

   * RegEx Search - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/regex-search/bcdabfmndggphffkchfdcekcokmbnkjl - not sure what form of the word or what spelling or whether the author calls it a cog or a sprocket? RegEx in-page search to the rescue!

   * Scraper - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/scraper/nndknepjnldbdbepjfgmncbggmopgden - for grabbing tabular data and pasting into a spreadsheet

   * Too Many Tabs - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/toomanytabs-for-chrome/amigcgbheognjmfkaieeeadojiibgbdp - hide some tabs for a while. But mostly I use it when I accidentally close a tab - keeps a list of the most recently closed tabs

   * Google Tag Assistant - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tag-assistant-by-google/kejbdjndbnbjgmefkgdddjlbokphdefk - with the advent of Google Tag Manager and asynchronous loading, it can be hard to know what tags are inserted on a page. This solves that. And lets you spy.

   * SumoMe - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/sumome/dlgipkaoljiajmolhibpngjppeckkjjp - easy access to SumoMe features if you're using their email signup forms etc

   * Active Inbox - still in the free trial phase on inbox organizer, but might actually pay. It's good. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/activeinbox-for-gmail-and/oeehiifcaeengdofhogmkblhkmpephcj

   * Page Analytics - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/page-analytics-by-google/fnbdnhhicmebfgdgglcdacdapkcihcoh - see GA data right from the page as you surf

   * Rapportive - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/rapportive/hihakjfhbmlmjdnnhegiciffjplmdhin - if someone writes to you using the email they use on LinkedIn, it pulls up a photo. Great help for those of us who have faulty facial recognition wetware.
   * User Agent Switcher for Chrome - best I've found - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/user-agent-switcher-for-c/djflhoibgkdhkhhcedjiklpkjnoahfmg

   * Wappalyzer - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/wappalyzer/gppongmhjkpfnbhagpmjfkannfbllamg - insight into what tech a site is running (CMS, JS frameworks, etc)

   * Google Voice - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/google-voice-by-google/kcnhkahnjcbndmmehfkdnkjomaanaooo - I'm usually not in a place where I have cell reception. This lets me send texts over the internet from my Google Voice number

   * Privacy Badger - tracking blocker

   * uBlock Origin - ad blocker

Chrome has some weird bug/issue with my Logitech drivers. If I use the scroll-wheel on my mouse quickly it logs me out of Windows...so I don't use it much. However, I fired it up <relogged back into Windows a few times> and took a look for you...

That's a pretty good list you have there. I could add:

  • HTTPS Everywhere - Make sure you're on the HTTPS version of a page if HTTPS is available (must have)
  • uMatrix - companion to uBlock that works like NoScript, but allows very fine blocking/allowing page elements. Takes a bit getting used to, but extremely powerful
  • Nimbus Screenshot and Screencast - handy tool for screenshots
  • Web Developer - Just like the Web Developer toolbar for Firefox
  • FireBug Lite - The Firebug tools for Chrome
  • Mailvelope - PGP encrypt mail and other form submission data

How does Chrome perform when you use that many extensions? Is it just as bad as Firefox?

Don't like anything that says it can see everything on my page

Linkclump - Right click, drag, and open every link in a new tab. Use it almost daily for different tasks.

--------------
PixelBlock - blocks people from tracking when you open/read their emails

I try not to leave many enabled.  In my main browser profile I have:

Google Cast - cast my screen to the various chromecasts/firetvs that I present on
Google publisher toolbar - inspect dfp tags and google ads on page
Grammarly spell & grammar checker - triallling this. I quite like it, but I think it causes a performance hit
Image properties context menu - because it should be built in
Lastpass - so that I can use mental passwords
Streak - lightweight CMS in googlemail
webpage screenshot - all screenshot apps are bad. this is the one currently annoying me the least
rapportive  - keep disabling this and putting it back. can't decide
measureit - in browser rule

I also have a few that I enable just when I need them
Google analytics debugger - does what it says on the tin
Check range
external followed link highligher
httpheaders
image downloader
majestic
rss subscription
scraper
similarweb
webdeveloper

Thanks for the lists... several I had not heard of that look interesting.

Several of those are disabled unless needed and since Chrome usually doesn't need a restart to enable a plugin, no problem. But even with a bunch enabled, no, I don't have a performance problem.

By contrast, I have almost everything disabled on Firefox. At a certain point FF became mostly unusable to me and for FF I have multiple profiles -- Lite, SEO, Dev

FireBug Lite - The Firebug tools for Chrome

I have those, but they are disabled and I find I rarely use them now that the built-in tools do most of what I want. I turned on the Web Dev recently because I wanted it to highlight missing images.

Bill....
>> Google analytics debugger
Sorry to be ignorant, but what does one "debug" in GA?

>>Mailvelope - PGP encrypt mail and other form submission data

I tried to wrap my head around that, but... In theory PGP email makes total sense to me. In practice, it's just been a hurdle higher than I've been willing to jump

>>image downloader

I can think of a 100 times I would have used that if I had known about it!

>>Linkclump - Right click, drag, and open every link in a new tab

Brilliant

I keep meaning to do that in FF. Thanks for the reminder.

I've been using PGP since the 1990s, but usage has fallen off as the people I communicate with most don't like it. I used to force everyone to use it, then they stopped mailing me.  >:( Even I use it less today than I did in the past as there are more secure communication channels that don't leak meta data at all, and I prefer those.

I do participate in forums where everyone PGP signs their posts. It's handy there. Other than that I only use it a few times a month for e-mail encryption/decryption.

Sorry... right. As for what it does

>>image properties context menu

Yes! That should be built in. I do "inspect" *all* the time on images

Analytics debugger is handy if you are triggering events, custom variables etc.  Basically just dumps everything into console.
Can't say I use if often, but it is handy from time to time.
