Looks like my host of 20 years sold out and left no one at the wheel. sites down, no email going through. Who we using in the US? Less than 15 domains active.

Mackin USA

Mr. Mackin

I'm using godaddy as a front-end and forwarding the few email addresses we're using. Since I'm likely to move hosts anyway, I don't mind toggling nameservers.

I'm going to miss my old host. I could have the owner/tech carve up my server just like I wanted.  "Server logs filling up with my crappy php code spewing errors? F### it, set a daily cron to nuke the logs."

So you want managed hosting?

I am really happy with Linode, but it's more unmanaged VPS. I don't know if they do any managed hosting or shared hosting

>managed hosting

No, I just had that as a perk for being an ultra-long-term client. (I also had unlimited bandwidth.)  It'd be nice to have a tech go in an set things like I want, but that really isn't a problem to pay for as needed since I only contacted them every three or four years.

OVH are great for competitive pricing and decent plans. They do shared/VPS/dedicated plans.

They have data centres in Montreal and France.

I've had ok service with knownhost for vps, but am moving to reseller accounts. VPS is left up to you to harden and manage, though the accounts are actually "managed."

Reseller gives you separate cpanels for each account/domain, hardened/upgraded as normal without you, and often more resources than you would get from a VPS for less money.

OVH are great

I was just talking to a friend on OVH and he thinks they're great and they have always had great prices.

Linode is not too far off and I like
- server control app for iOS and Android
- $5/mo for automated backup
