Intercom for Android

Installed on one old Gen 4 Fire Tablet using the Playstore hack for Fire posted earlier and 2 phones. I set it up for wi-fi network but there's an option for bluetooth. Works! Phones & tablets can be mixed as needed to make a "whole house" system.

Note: I needed a volume booster app for the tiny speakers on Fire Tablet.  Used this one that launches on boot.

Same network VOIP with device discover (I suspect) y via network scanning all IPs on a specific port.

Looks interesting but... I'd set up this in the web browser and have video too, and/or install it locally and run the server side components too as it's open source.

Yup, or at least it looks to be so.  On the app itself, all you see a table of all devices with the app installed and their IP number.  You can set it to 'voice activated' or Push-To-Talk (like an intercom or walkie-talkie).

But it's getting great press even though you are physically tethered to the hardware. I figured I'm carrying the phone in my pocket, so I'm carrying the intecom with me.  The tablet(s) could be positioned around likely spots in the house.

Rupert, this Amz intercom is also being hawked/reviewed as a remote elder care device.

My comment about jitsu was semi serious / semi piss taking,  as I've been looking at WebRTC video chat via the browser a lot recently, but the more I think about it... A simple cheap Android device for $50 per room and a raspberry pi (or just use the free service linked to earlier) and job done. It's almost identical

I completely agree

I am also pretty sure I could knock this into an Android app within a day or so too. Hmmm

The one I linked was NOT available on the AMZ App Store. If you could get inside their gated community, the abundance of cheap-ish, family-grouped devices would make it a killer app, imo. The average Amz family isn't going to bother with loading the apk's like I did to get access to G playstore for the app.

Don't forget onboard volume booster as part of the app.

Getting an App on the Amazon and G Play store isn't an issue, however I wouldn't know where to start with the volume boost thing.

I doubt I'd do it but..... you never know :)

OK, I see that, thanks for the heads up.
