China bringing electric cars to US

Some years back someone (I think it was RC) linked to an article that predicted that some day we would have new cars selling at $2-3k.  Electric, mass produced vehicles out of China might do it someday.  Electric proposition is so much simpler than an ICE setup.

I always expected Chinese auto companies to import ICE cars to the US.  I might be wrong.  I think they will establish a beachhead in the EV niche and branch out from there.

In the US, meeting bumper crash laws at a low price is going to be the stumbling block, I think. Once they break through that barrier, it's going to be a race to the bottom $$$ for economy EVs that will do highway speeds.  Low speed urban-dweller models that have a top speed of 35 will be first because they aren't subject to as strict bumper law requirements.  Here in NC, you can get a golf cart certified as road-worthy, but only for low speeds.
