[ergophobe scratches head.... wonders what this thread has to do with version control.... then remembers his Harry Potter and the usage of this term in the UK]

Yeah Paul, why did you have to go an spoil it for us all!!

Does your ISP have offices in other parts of the UK, if so I want to talk to them.

I've a 40GB database to upload in the coming weeks. The server is in France... I might be better off just handing them a DVD in person.

Our office ISP is JANET - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JANET  ;D
"JANET is a private British government-funded computer network dedicated to education and research"

The office i'm in is in the business village of the university, lots like them all over the country. Full serviced, internet included in the £450 a month for tiny office, up to £2k for the huge ones.

This thread got me wondering about testing the actual speed on the satellite connection. I did this in the evening when it slows to a crawl... but still...

I live in fear of people with connections like Paul's thinking it would be a good idea to send me 20 high-res pictures of their cat.

yeap  ;D ;D
Even if i turn everything off that might be sucking bandwidth i still cant beat that upload

OK. So if anyone else wants to feel a bit better about their connection, think back to dial up.....

I have been with bethere for a few years, always found the customer service and uptime excellent, speed is another matter though

I've learned that pleasing everyone is impossible. But, pissing everyone off is a piece of cake!

Mick, I got one of their new routers - seems to have improved things a bit - but even so, mine was never as slow as your readings - is that typical?

mick g

yeah and come Monday I will be looking for another ISP

cheers
