As I've just ordered a book recommended by PaulH in another thread, does anyone have any books they'd recommend to fellow Core folk? Here's five off the top of my head that aren't The Cluetrain Manifesto:

Speed Up Your Site by Andrew King
Self explanatory. Getting a little old now, but useful if you're concerned about maximum compatibility with older browsers.

High Performance Websites and Even Faster Websites by Steve Souders
The first book seems to be the basis of a lot of plugins like YSlow, and both volumes are invaluable. New techniques tend to appear on Steve's website before they make into his books.

Building Scalable Websites by Cal Henderson
Lead developer for Flickr, and a massive brain-dump on how to avoid the gotchas of large scale sites.

Head First Design Patterns by Eric & Elisabeth Freeman
I starting coding on a Commodore Pet in the 70s, and 'modern' object oriented programming doesn't come naturally. The first few chapters of Head First Design Patterns were real lightbulb material, and despite all the examples being in Java (and me not knowing any Java) it's really helped my coding.

Don't Make Me Think by Steve Krug
Common sense usability advice, and an absolute must-read.
