Recording outgoing calls to web
« on: November 23, 2012, 06:04:44 PM »
Weird one, but someone here usually comes through with at least a prod in the right direction.

I'm looking for a way to record the content of a call and upload it to the web as a soundfile.  I'll describe the ideal set-up, even though I suspect that the final solution will not include all of this.

  • This will be used to a group of pre-consenting people, so a plugin or even hardware device is acceptable
  • Allows a call to be initiated from a webpage
  • Logs the user and the start time
  • Call gets recorded
  • On completion the file is saved with user ID and start time and uploaded to a location defined by us on the web
  • Being really really picky the call would be made from phone line rather than VOIP
  • Not ridiculous price

I suspect the last point knackers the chance of their being an ideal solution.  I'm wondering whether cunning use of folder syncing or web drives might solve the upload issue.  Can't help but think this has been done before though.

How about free, but not meeting your auto-upload requirement?

Also, I've done it with simply recording off skype with Super Tintin (good) or Pamela (ughh). You could probably create an auto-upload with rsync, WebDAV or whatever.

FreeConferenceCall accounts also come with FREE conference call recording! So not only is the recording service free, it's accessible by phone or computer, with no additional charges for downloading. You can distribute, archive or even send recordings to your listeners via RSS and podcast – for FREE.

Free calls limited to 96 participants and extra charges if you want a toll-free number. We've used this for board meetings, though, and even the paid services are really cheap.

www.twilio.com the call recording is still not 100% released AFAIK, but you can beta test it.

The rest can all be done with labs and tools I would think.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I'd been trying to remember the name of Twilio since this requirement came up.

Oh god yeah - Twilio! It is even better now than when I first saw it and promptly forgot it's name.    Wow that opens up some possibilities.
