Web Development / People's current take on 2Checkout?
« on: November 08, 2013, 02:14:56 PM »
Been looking through the boards but only found a 2 year old thread - have things changed much since? Anybody with recent experience using 2Checkout? I intend to use it for a digital services site I am launching as an alternative to Plimus I had been using on all my other sites as I'm not particularly happy with it lately, and what they say on the site suits me pretty much. Can anything go wrong?

Marketing / Ads on LinkedIn
« on: July 26, 2013, 08:14:50 AM »
Has anyone ever run ads on LinkedIn? Please share your experience
Not running anything yet but was considering it - my main concern as of now before any real experience is how precise their targeting is I guess - with people labelling themselves whatever they wish rather than sticking to linkedin's built in categories, and no option to search for actual terms mentioned in the descriptions (or have I missed it?)

Hardware & Technology / Wordpress blogs under attack
« on: April 13, 2013, 09:47:59 AM »
http://arstechnica.com/security/2013/04/huge-attack-on-wordpress-sites-could-spawn-never-before-seen-super-botnet/

Quote
"Today, this attack is happening at a global level and WordPress instances across hosting providers are being targeted. Since the attack is highly distributed in nature (most of the IPs used are spoofed), it is making it difficult for us to block all malicious data."

Quote
At least one company warned that the attackers may be in the process of building a "botnet" of infected computers that's vastly stronger and more destructive than those available today.

With so much at stake, readers who run WordPress sites are strongly advised to lock down their servers immediately. The effort may not only protect the security of the individual site. It could help safeguard the Internet as a whole.

Water Cooler / Help me come up with a title?
« on: January 12, 2013, 02:39:06 PM »
So I'm writing a criminal drama story in 3 parts for one blog, fiction based on a real case I've investigated a while ago, where everybody including G get fecked up by a spammer and it takes a blackhat's skills to uncover what has really happened. One thing I cannot come up is the title for the story.

It's been ages since I've read anything other than marketing and tech related stuff. Do any of you read any criminal stories? I want a title that refers to some popular story yet plays on the specifics of my actual story. If you could guide me in terms of actual popular titles that would be recognizable enough for most readers that would be really really cool... Or it could refer to some recent film, I don't know.

Water Cooler / G Suggest update?

Is it just me or has G just updated its suggestions to only display 4 options at once for every query?

Water Cooler / On this day...

32 years ago John Lennot got shot. People here are mostly old enough to remember him so I thought it would mean something to you just as it means to me.

Marketing / These as generic anchor texts for links?
« on: December 07, 2012, 04:10:29 PM »
http://www.searchenginejournal.com/ppc-optimization/53899/
The post is about PPC ads but I kept thinking while reading it that many of the examples could actually be used as generic (i.e. not keyword-based and not branded) anchor texts when building links...

Traffic / LinkedIn -> conversions?
« on: November 02, 2012, 08:04:43 AM »
Anybody had any luck with any conversions from LinkedIn? Niche? (Unless you are a recruiter of course  ;D )

I have an evil idea that I was thinking of running a little practical test for but wonder if all that exploiting would result in anything more than empty traffic or hate mail

Traffic / 3 updates in 10 days - WTF?
« on: October 09, 2012, 02:11:56 AM »
EMD then Panda then Penguin
It looks at this point as if they are trying to fix the previous updates with the new ones not being happy about the results
Or maybe it's (also - doesn't have to be instead) G's way of trying to keep webmasters/SEOs busy analyzing as opposed to doing things that actually matter.

Anyways, my reply to G's sh## from now on is this: http://www.keepcalm-o-matic.co.uk/p/keep-calm-and-continue-spamming/
