And yet the DoJ can extradite people just because a US citizen claims they were ripped off by them, it's dangerous doing business across the ocean these days :

(sorry it's the Daily Fail)

Traffic / If you can't beat them, help them ...

I've been in SEO for only a year, but i have decades of IT experience.

I've been getting clients via word of mouth, because i previouisly wasn't doing it full time, but this month i set up a website and got things going.

One of the things i've done is rent a Skype landline number so that i can get customer calls on the PC or the mobile.

I've listed my business on about 20 good UK business directories, but boy did i NOT know what i was in for !

All i get now are marketing calls ! I'm in marketing, leave me alone !!

Then i started getting calls from 'energy registration list' companies, hunting for business, we've recently moved here so it's understandable.

But it's been annoying, getting 5-10 calls from them a day, so yesterday i got a bit angry with one of them, telling him to get off my line and it's none of his business who supplies my energy, when he said "Well if you tell me who you're with and when you switched, i take you off our list and you don't get called again".

So i'm beaten now, 5-10 times a day i answer the phone, listen to the introduction then say :

"OK i'll save you some time, we switched to Npower in November and the paperwork is finalised."

If you can't beat them, help them, then they go away ;+}

Yeah, they are the technocrats.

I don't like technocrats, they're too clean and they have never suffered.

I have to say I was stunned when I saw that article headline.  Somebody must be cooking the books.

Conspiracy Theories:

1. Google planted that story so they would not look like a monopoly.
2.  Yahoo planted that story to appear big.
3.  UN guys in Black Helicopters planted that so we won't use Google.
4. Bing somehow got it wrong again.
5. Crop circles.

6. UFO's

Also .. those figures were only for the month of December and lots of US citizens use Yahoo for shopping so that's probably why the spike in the source data.

I'm a heavy youtube user and bemoan the day G took them over.

Crashes, freezes, UI problems, important functions buried deep within menus.

Having to give your mobile number to G (and the NSA and the CIA !) as well as other irrelevant details.

They are a monster !

There are some nutters on youtube who think G is the antichrist ...

I liked it too.  I don't think most of the world is aware of the changes, and probably don't care.
But I think they should...

I agree.  I just think that SEOs ranting on their blog is never going to do that and makes the whole topic look like sour grapes.

SEOs won't stop ranting on their blogs because it adds more 'keyword rich' content ;+}

Traffic / A little mystery ..
« on: February 14, 2014, 03:29:07 PM »
.. it's a mystery to me, anyway, i've only been in SEO for a year.

I'm researching some competitor sites and have noticed something strange with the backlinks pointing to one of them.

Out of around 70 backlinks, more than 60 share these characteristics :

1. The domains were registered on the same date and expire on the same date, Feb 1st 1995 (!) until Feb 2md 2020.
2. The domains are anonymously registered., through GoDaddy.
3. The domains have no hosting !

Of the ones that do have hosting, there are no links in the content, nothing in the source code ..

Does it seem odd or is it some standard practice going on that i'm ignorant of ?

This company is always number 1 or 2 for a couple of valuable search terms.

All the best,

Gary.
