The Treadmill Desk

What you need: (1) an old used treadmill (2) $39 to build the desk and (3) the desire to change your life.

Now if you could power your monitor off the turning of the treadmill....

I've often thought about it and this guy got me thinking about it again (old article, but I only recently saw it)

I often use a standing desk, but I think the treadmill forces you to stay properly aligned

I keep looking for a cycling version - that way, you can sit down and work, yet still exercise your legs. :)

I have the house up for sale at the moment.  I currently have a garden office, but we are looking for a place with an office inside.  My mind has been racing on new set-up ideas and this has NOT helped ;)

It seems like a great idea and I don't usually sit for longer than 30mins before I wander anyway.  Add to this that I am too fat (and this would help me clean up in the core commit), and I am seriously thinking about giving it a go.

Has anyone here tried this for longer than a few days?

I remember reading an article about a doctor who used a very slow moving treadmill desk - I think it only moved 1.5 mph.  The idea was that it was slow enough that you just kept moving your body slowly.  It was worth a significant amount of calories at the end of the day, but because it was so slow it did not take away from productivity.  Also, the constant slow circulation kept the blood from pooling up which could be a problem with a standing desk.

I used a standing desk for two years, for what it is worth it was during a period where I gained weight -- so I wouldn't call it an effective tool for weight management.  Yet, I think there were some other benefits.  After a while I got myself a tall stool and would split the day up between standing and sitting.  That was kind of nice because it allowed me to work while I was able to move around and straiten my spine.

I made one of these because I totally f'd my back up. I use it not nearly as often as I should. For a while I was doing like 2-3 hrs a day on it.

They are great though if you have back or any other sitting issues.

Much of the work I have been doing lately requires 2 monitors and I only have the one on there. It is great though. Recommended.
