Thanks RC for emailing me!

Basically I just want to be able to type something and have it go out to an "announcement" RSS feed and also send out that info to email subscribers.  You guys have any recommendations?

Monetization / taking crypto payments
« on: February 21, 2024, 10:15:09 PM »
I may be leaving a little cash on the table by not taking crypto contributions.   What's a simple way receive payments and convert them to USD?  I am not really interested in holding crypto currency.

Monetization / adsense 2024
« on: January 28, 2024, 12:00:00 AM »
I have a long neglected site that still modestly earns from adsense.  I am hopefully about to get a lot more traffic to it.  Anybody here still plugging away with adsense and have any tips for maximizing earnings?  I noticed that I have "auto ads" off, but can't recall why I did that.  I am  sure there have been changes in strategies in the last 15 years.

Traffic / Been looking at server logs lately and one thing I noticed...
« on: January 27, 2024, 04:12:40 AM »
referral spam is way, way up compared to where it use to be.

BTW, this is really handy if you like to work in shell:
[root@server ~]# tail -n N /path/to/domain.log |awk -F\" '{print $4}'  | sort | uniq -c | sort -nr|grep -v domain.org |less
Replace the 'N' with the number of rows you want to see.

It has been so long since I've seen such a pure search interface, I forgot how nice it could be.

Traffic / Just something interesting between Reddit and DDG
« on: October 21, 2023, 04:32:34 AM »
I did a couple of questions on Reddit about a specific topic, then 10 minutes later I did a search in DDG where I searched for a series of words I used in my post on Reddit.  My posts on Reddit were in the top of DDG's results.  Somehow they seem to have a direct pipeline into  Reddit in near real time -- really interesting!

US in talks for largest-ever sale of arms, fighter jets to Vietnam

Quote
The Biden administration is in talks with Vietnam over an agreement for the largest arms transfer in history between the ex-Cold War adversaries, according to two people familiar with a deal that could irk China and sideline Russia.

A package, which could come together within the next year, could consummate the newly upgraded partnership between Washington and Hanoi with the sale of a fleet of American F-16 fighter jets as the Southeast Asian nation faces tensions with Beijing in the disputed South China Sea, one of the people said.

Water Cooler / Sorry about the outage

JaguarPC had some type of server meltdown, then their backup somehow corrupted some forum cache.  It took a while to figure it out.

Water Cooler / The Risk of Dying Doing What We Love
« on: June 20, 2023, 10:24:58 PM »
I thought this article and infograph were pretty interesting.   While far from comprehensive it does show the relative risks of various hobby activities.  As Ergo has said, inactivity has it's own risks too.

Investment in clean energy will extend its lead over spending on fossil fuels in 2023, the International Energy Agency said on Thursday, with solar projects expected to outpace outlays on oil production for the first time.

Annual investment in renewable energy is up by nearly a quarter since 2021 compared to a 15% rise for fossil fuels, the Paris-based energy watchdog said in its World Energy Investment report.

Anybody active with them here?  How's CJ doing these days?  Is there another network that's been on the rise?
