Ranking changes

I have not been keeping track of most of my site rankings in google due to other things going on, but I had a good look today and have noticed that the sites I have which are very simple and based around one keyword are doing really well.

On the flip side the ones I have put time and effort into which cover wider subjects (and are more useful) seem to have been on the slide.

It doesn't seem to be related to the type of linking I did on them either.

Has anyone else seen the same and if so, is now the time to start banging out simple sites again?

Last night I searched and ran into 2 different sets of results, one much more updated than the other, and then a revert.... I figured something was in the pipe.

All I see is flux at the mo. Some sites dropping for specific keywords, other unchanged. None up at the mo!

a few "strong" sites seem to have dropped on keywords I watch and friend watch.  G is definitely up to something else at the moment

I am waiting for it to settle down, if it ever will  :'(

I have a theory that part of the latest changes, will be that in many verticals, where there are more than say x sites that are capable of supplying a suitable product for the search request,  the results will be put into flux, until Google can determine which give the best conversions/time on site or whatever.

It is Matts "level the playing field"  comment that makes me think it is a possible scenario, that's all really.  While it churns, I am concentrating on making my business work better off line.


 I think riding the Google wave might be about to end, and as in all standard verticals, the only winners on-line will be the big companies.  :(

I am not usually this negative,  perhpas the sun will come out again soon.   There is a hugh amount of chatter on WMW about it.  So much noise!!  Ah, not been there for ages, and wont be back again for a while.

Telecoms sector is very disturbed across multiple b2b and b2c verticals.

On a couple of particular generic keywords, a number of companies are suddenly appearing on page one that were never even close before, while normally strong competitors are pushed out.

If representative and unchanged this is going to be the biggest change to the ranking algo I've seen in years.

I also notice that a lot more sites are getting multiple places in the top 10, not just the indented ones either.  One search I did had one company operating two sites holding the top seven places for a single term. 

With my casual surfer hat on, I would say that Bing results are a lot more useful right now.

Sites with deindexed links ranking number 1.

I think this is still being rolled out, I had another site go missing today.  It is still indexed, just not ranking. 

So, do you think this update will stick?  If so then I need to start experimenting with new sites and do a bit of a rebuild.

not a clue.  I have pretty much lost 1 site but another looks recoverable.  Luckly my EMDs are doing fantastically with just 1 page of content!! emd + 1 page of rubbish content = SEO WIN!!
