When I lived in Alaska, I drove through Tok a couple times in the summer and once it was in the 90sF - inland and dry, it can get hot in the summer. The highest temperature ever recorded in Alaska is way north in Fort Yukon (100F in 1915).

Wow. It's going to be a long summer.

We've been getting thunderstorms the last few days in the high country. It's setting off fires up there, as usual, and that's fine - that terrain has centuries of lightning strike fires and little fire suppression, so the fires just smolder for months without major impact. But if those thunderstorms drop 4,000 feet in elevation, things will get dire very fast.

We are on our 5th named Atlantic storm and it's not July 4th yet.

I think we are at 15 straight days in the 90s so far and 14 day forecast shows the next two weeks in the 90s. The previous record here was I believe 13 straight days.

It's been unusually cool here in Kansas:  we are still in wheat harvest which is usually done before July 4th.  We've had a lovely summer for the most part, but we will get into 100s this friday.

It's been unusually cool here along the NC coast, too, beginning in April.  So far, we've only had about a half-dozen  90-90⁺ degree days.   That pretty cool for a season that's known on /r as "Hell's Back Porch."  July-August is Hell's Front Porch, so we'll see if the more temperate weather holds.

My mom used to say that you were considered to be a bad farmer if you didn't get your potatoes harvested by the 4th.  I haven't seen much digging going on, though.
