New bot ChatGPT will force colleges schools to get creative to prevent cheating, experts say.

ChatGPT can generate an essay. But could it generate an "A"?

Yesterday, I sent ChatGPT to my (high-math teacher) daughter, as we routinely discuss using tech to cheat Her reply;

"Wow. I'll never get back those two hours I just spent down that rabbit hole. That was fun.

It wrote an essay for a kid's final (she's already written hers) that was pretty good."

I posted a separate thread but it bears noting here;

QuoteWhat is most frustrating is that when we ask #ChatGPT to summarize and review "The Great Automatic Grammatizator," we receive this self-confident, yet inaccurate response. Character names, plot details, and the meaning of the story are false. But said with complete assurance...

>assurance

Assurances and accuracy don't mean a thing to blackhats.  This tech is going to absolutely disrupt content generation --WH & BH.

I played around it a bit and asked it stuff like "what is the best way to cook a steak" and "give me 6 steps to smoke a brisket". The answers it spit out are fairly decent. Better than a lot of the handwritten content that is out there but not quite up to "expert" level content. If someone is just looking to crank out dozens/hundreds of pages of decent content this will do the trick.

Where's Toolman when we need him?

Actually, I think Trav could use it now to crank out 3rd level 'Pirates, Ghosts, & Lore' pages.

I was going to see if it helped me find a present for Sue for Christmas.  I read her the response, and was tod it was marginally better than a voucher at the fish shop:

Quote
what shall i buy my wife for christmas

It's always a good idea to consider your spouse's interests and needs when choosing a gift. Some ideas for Christmas gifts for your wife might include:

Jewelry, such as a necklace, bracelet, or earrings
    A new handbag or purse
A gift certificate for a spa day or massage
A new kitchen gadget or appliance
A book or other item related to a hobby or interest of your wife's
A piece of clothing or accessory that she has been wanting
A gift card to a store or restaurant that she loves
A thoughtful, heartfelt card or note expressing your appreciation and love

Ultimately, the best gift will depend on your wife's individual preferences and personality. It's always a good idea to take the time to think about what she would truly appreciate and enjoy, rather than just going for the most expensive or extravagant option.
rupert:
ok thanks she like walking the dogs

If your wife enjoys walking the dogs, some gift ideas that might be appropriate might include:

A new dog leash or collar
A gift certificate for a dog grooming session
A gift card to a pet store or online retailer that sells dog-related items
A book or guide on dog training or care
A new dog toy or treat
A gift basket filled with dog-related items, such as treats, toys, and grooming supplies
A personalized dog collar or leash
A new dog carrier or travel bag

You might also consider getting your wife something that will make her walks with the dogs more enjoyable, such as a new pair of walking shoes or a rain jacket. Whatever you choose, be sure to consider your wife's specific interests and needs when selecting a gift.

(public thread, so removed your email address)

While it apparently missed the mark for wife's gifts, I thought it was perfectly good influencer-type blog drivel.

Rupert

oops thanks RC. Removed the first, missed that one.

But yes it is remarkable.

Been meaning to look more into chatgpt, but agree it's just very convincingly boilerplate generic stuff from what I've seen. raises the bar for the real human in a Turing test, and probably can fool search bots enough. Makes me think of G and pagerank, at some point they may find a chunk of their training data is a product of their own output.

I've been playing with this to the point that it asked me, "Too many requests, please slow down."

My samples read like junior high essays, charming but shallow.

Sometimes the content contained errors ... correctly spelled, grammatically accurate, confidently presented and flat wrong.

I could see this being useful to jumpstart the creative process for a real human writer with subject matter expertise, but there's no way I'd trust material from this source without rigorous review.
